Can you Spot the Signs of Depression?
Experts say that 16 percent of Americans -- more than 30 million people -- will suffer major depression at some point in their lives.
Will you be able to see the signs if it strikes you or someone you love?
- Sad most days (or, in kids and teens, angry and irritable most days)
- no longer interested in things they once enjoyed
- oversleeping or not sleeping enough
- overeating or not eating enough
- feeling guilty or experiencing low self-esteem
- having trouble concentrating, trouble making decisions
- restless or agitated
- fatigued or lacking energy most days
- having thoughts about death or suicidal thoughts
If you checked 5 or more of these signs, consult a psychologist or physician. Depression is a serious illness; but it is also very treatable.
